Matchmaker.com’s claim to
fame is that it is the oldest online dating site,
established in 1985, and is responsible for thousands
of successful relationships and
marriages.
How
Does It Work?
Go to the Matchmaker.com
site. Follow the online
instructions for registering and complete the profile
questions then begin searching. When you find someone
that you would like to contact you then (and only
then) pay for a membership.
The
Positives
Thorough Profile Questions: many of
the profile building questions were typical of most
major online dating sites; physical appearance,
family situation, preferred activities, etc. What
separated
Matchmaker from other major dating services was that
their questions often dynamically lead to even more follow
up questions depending on which answers were chosen in the
first place.
For example, when choosing a religious preference they
presented a large multiple choice list of religions (or
none of the above) from which to pick. Upon selection,
additional questions offer an opportunity to elaborate
about what your faith means to you personally.
The advantage of this is that when you find someone
interesting you have more detailed information to review
before deciding whether or not to contact that person. When
you do make contact it also helps to give you excellent
conversation starters.
Many Ways To Communicate:
Matchmaker offers many useful ways to get to know the
site members without revealing your identity. Some of these
ways are onsite secure email, instant messaging,
audio-video messaging and chat rooms.
Ease of Use: The process for registering, for
building your personal profile and for searching is simple,
logical and organized.
Support: email support is available for
questions. Also a free relationship magazine called
Date.info is offered with topics like: “ Nice Guys or
Bad Guys Who Do You Love?”, “ Cocky & Funny Attracts
Women” and “ Attraction Isn’t a Choice”.
Free Limited Membership: before you pay for
anything you can register, complete your profile and search
through other profiles until you find someone interesting.
This creates a real opportunity to see if the
Matchmaker Online Dating Service is right for you
before risking any money.
Negatives
Immediately after finishing my profile I was
presented with over 190 possible Matches. One was
considered to be an exact match. The other 192 were
said to be extended Matches which really means that
each profile in this category matches some of my
criteria but not all.
The problem was that so many of the matches, including
the perfect match, were not that appropriate or appealing.
Also, I live in a metropolitan area of about 500,000 people
yet, so few of the matches were close to my home.
Even after revising my criteria a few times I found that
I received pretty much the same results.
Guarantee
None.
Price:
The pricing, as of this writing is just a
little better than other major dating sites like
Match.com or PerfectMatch.com. All of the prices
listed below are in United States Dollars and are
subject to change:
- 1 month = $34.95 (USD)
- 3 months @ 23.32 / month
- 6 months @ 16.66 / month
- 12 months @ 11.66 / month
Bottom
Line
Overall,
Matchmaker is a worthy online dating site. It offers a
large pool of people looking for love and it is easy to
use, provides lots of profile information on prospective
matches, has a wide variety of ways to communicate with its
members without revealing your identity and is reasonably
priced.
Matchmaker is certainly a
quality and seasoned site but I think other sites like
Match.com with its large volume of more appropriate
matches, (at least by my testing), or PerfectMatch.com
with its fewer but more scientific Duet Compatibility
selection criteria may offer a least a slight advantage
over
Matchmaker.com.
